Upside Down: The Creation Records Story

(2010)

Danny O’Connor’s documentary chronicles the storied history of the UK independent record label Creation Records, that was founded by the maverick Glaswegian, Alan McGee.

McGee’s label at one point boasted the likes of The Jesus & Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine, Primal Scream, Ride and Oasis on its roster, and O’Connor’s doc follows the story from the birth right through the glory years of the early to mid-1990s and the ugly demise.

As well as the usual archive footage, the film features fascinating stories supplied by McGee and his co-conspirator BP Fallon, and a host of interviews with key players in the label’s rise to prominence, including Bobby Gillespie and Noel Gallagher.

A really interesting look at one of the key indie labels of the 1980s and 1990s, and all the high and low times that went with it.
