6. Gram Parsons GP/Grievous Angel

(Reprise, 1990)

Widely regarded by critics as the father of country rock, Gram Parsons only had the time to release two solo albums during his all to brief lifetime.

Whilst his work with the Flying Burrito Brothers, The Byrds and International Submarine Band earned him strong critical notices, it was on his solo records where his talent really blossomed.

GP and Grievous Angel are simply two of the finest country-rock albums ever made. From the beautiful ‘A Song For You’ and ‘Still Feeling Blue’ to the stunning rendition of ‘Love Hurts’ with natural companion Emmylou Harris, there is so much to enjoy.

Available in a single CD format, GP and Grievous Angel seamlessly follow each other and provide a fitting bookend to the life of a remarkable artist.

A free-wheeling spirit who loved nothing more than to drive out into the wilderness on his beloved motorcycle, it is surely a fitting tribute to the man to play these fine records out on the road.
