10. ‘Roadrunner’ by The Modern LoversRoadrunner

The influential Massachusetts band The Modern Lovers imploded almost as quickly as they began, but their sublime self-titled début remains a touchstone for many up and coming indie rock bands. ‘Roadrunner’ is a fine example of the youthful exuberance of singer Jonathan Richman and his band, a two-chord repetitive guitar lick married perfectly with Richman’s incoherent but wholly sincere yearning for the road. A hugely anthemic piece of rock ‘n’ roll that is made for the highway.
