13. ‘Car Radio’ by SpoonCar Radio

‘Car Radio’ is a taut, minimalistic punk/pop gem, and a fine representation of the Austin, Texas band Spoon’s consistent knack for strong, inventive hooks and melodies. Lyrically, frontman Britt Daniel pays tribute to the trusty car stereo, amusingly labelling it “voice of authority from here until Empire State.” Musically, Daniel bashes out a funky, Wire-esque lead riff as Jim Eno pounds away furiously on the drums. And in early¬†Wire fashion it’s all over pretty quickly, but such is the brilliance of ‘Car Radio’ you’ll no doubt play it again and again.
