18. ‘Road To Nowhere’ by Talking HeadsRoad To Nowhere

Talking Heads are a very difficult band to pin down. Given their restless pursuit of new sounds, exploration of different genres and their eclectic discography, it is very hard to explain their “sound” to someone who hasn’t heard them before. That aside, there is little doubt that ‘Road To Nowhere’ is the one of the band’s most accessible songs, and a great anthem for the road. Beginning with a spirited a capella sing-along, David Byrne and cohorts then plough through a thrilling four minutes of unashamedly upbeat pop. A really uplifting song that is a good starting point for any long journey.

Available on: Talking Heads Little Creatures (EMI, 1985).
