22. ‘Drivin’ On 9′ by The BreedersLast Splash

Placed at the tail end of  1993’s wonderfully haphazard Last Splash, The Breeders’ ‘Drivin’ on 9 is a  real feel good hit. Kim Deal’s seductive coo is perfectly supplemented by a stomping country backbeat and  elegant violin, lending the song a timeless feel. In the early 1990s Deal seemed determined to prove just how strong a songwriter she was after a few years of frustration with Black Francis and the Pixies, and ‘Drivin On 9’ is a perfect example of her now undoubted talent.
