24. ‘My Girls’ by Animal CollectiveMy Girls

Freak-folk, industrial noise, crazed psychedelia: eccentric Baltimore band Animal Collective have done it all. Though fiercely experimental and independent, the Collective have also shown they are capable of writing a sing-along indie anthem or two. The insanely catchy and danceable ‘My Girls’ from their sublime Merriweather Post Pavillion album, is Exhibit A for this contention. A swirling synth and a multitude of electronic effects open the song, before Panda Bear’s slowed-down vocal emerges and an absolutely huge beat drops in. The lyrics exude a desire for a simple family life devoid of pretension or social status, and the chorus is absolutely massive. A truly exhilarating  track that will be played again and again. Essential for a psychedelic, blissed out road trip.
